Lifestyle | Restaurant Review - Giraffe

Restaurant review | Giraffe

What better way to spend your Friday evening, than with good food and even better cocktails! I visited the Giraffe restaurant at the Lakeside Broadwalk location, which is set perfectly on the little lake by the shopping centre. I must say I have heard mixed reviews about this place so I was a little apprehensive at first. But as soon as I walked in I was utterly surprised with the atmosphere, interior mood and the odd bits of food I noticed from wondering past the other diners!

We were quickly seated even though the restaurant was fairy busy (it was a Friday night after all) and soon after, our drink orders had been taken; a raspberries Bellini cocktail for me and you're average red stripe beer for my partner!

We decided to just get mains as I'm not overly a starter person (more desert) unless I'm really hungry, or something grabs my eye that sounds amazing! The mains came in great timing, not too early so we could sit and have a drink and chat. I ordered the chilli beef burrito which was just unreal! Full with smoked cheddar, adobe sauce, sour cream, pink onions and crunchy seeds with a side salad and tomato salsa and tequila-lime dressing; just perfect. One of the best burritos I've had.

We also ordered the BBQ ribs and chicken combo, which looked pretty good too, the chips and coleslaw were unreal, and well the onion rings (which I wasn't allowed to sample) looked even better!

Giraffe have all kinds of dining options, from Thai pad Thai style dishes (which I will definitely be sampling next time), to burgers, to salmon and beer battered cod. Or if you want more Mexican food they have quesadillas and great options of salad dishes for anyone watching the calories!

The only small downfall was, they took ages to come over and ask if we wanted dessert or the bill, which is always something that bothers me, especially when they add on a service charge automatically; although the service at the end was not as efficient. We had well and truly finished our drinks and by the time they came over we couldn't be bothered with dessert and wanted to head off, but I guess it was a busy Friday night!

Two meals with a cocktail and beer came to just under £40 with the service charge included. Not bad at all for a nice evening out!
